Morgan Hill State Forest is a 4,000-acre state forest in Onondaga County, New York. It is located in the town of Fabius, approximately 15 miles southeast of Syracuse. The forest consists of mostly hardwoods and hosts a variety of recreational activities including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, snowmobiling, and hunting.
Morgan Hill State Forest was originally purchased by New York State in the 1930s to reforest land that had been heavily logged in the early 20th century. The forest management practices have evolved over time, and currently include selective harvesting and removing invasive species.
The forest is also home to several unique features including Morgan Hill Overlook, which provides panoramic views of the surrounding area, and Tinker Falls, a 50-foot waterfall accessible by hiking trail.
Visitors to Morgan Hill State Forest can enjoy camping at one of the forest's six primitive campsites, or explore the miles of hiking and mountain biking trails that wind through the forest. The forest is open year-round, but services are limited in the winter months.
